Facility Development & Planning Resources
The health and safety of members is a primary concern to Netball Victoria (NV). Every Club / Association / League has a responsibility to provide a safe environment for players, coaches, umpires and spectators, not only to reduce the potential of injury, but also to meet its legal duty of care.
NV requires compliance to the expected court, run-off and goal post dimensions, design standards and court conditions to ensure a safe and playable netball facility for players, umpires and spectators.
Extensive planning and consultation is essential in ensuring the success of a development project. Analysing the needs of the organisation as well as rallying community support are important factors in driving a project. These elements are crucial if additional funding is a key ingredient to achieving the development of the facility.
FACILITY DEVELOPMENT & PLANNING GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Netball facility planning and development is to be focused on supporting the growth of the sport. To achieve this, facilities will need to be planned and developed with consideration of the following guiding principles:
- Strategic need, facility demand and participation growth opportunities
- Accessibility and inclusion, catering for multiple formats of the sport
- Maximising utilisation and improved programming
- Best practice technical and design standards
- Alignment with the needs of key stakeholders and partners
NV encourages all facility owners/managers to bring their courts in to line with the compliance standards as soon as practicable. All new netball court facilities must be designed and constructed to these standards.
Listed below are a number of resources that NV (in conjunction with SRV, NA & 2MH) have developed to help you achieve the above.
- Netball Victoria Facilities Manual
- Compliance Fact Sheet
- Design For Everyone: A Guide To Sport And Recreation Settings
